Rivalries TV Spot/Marketing Collateral
Mountain America Credit Union
This was a 30 second TV spot I worked on for Mountain America Credit Union, featuring BYU's Kody Epps and University of Utah's Cam Rising. The assignment I was given originally was just to provide some graphics for a TV spot, but in diving more into the project and working with a very talented videographer named Michael Butler, I quickly realized that the concept would really only work if the graphics included were accurate and up to the standard of a legitimate television broadcast.
After I was given the keyed footage, the project was now completely in my hands and I started building an After Effects project that contained all the graphics seen in the spot, including a virtual set. I knew Mike had a specific vision into how he saw this in his head, and I did my best to try and replicate that. I spent hours researching TV graphics to see how information was presented and animated.
I also built various marketing collateral that coincided with the spot, including various digital ads and two transit wraps, as shown below.
Mountain America Insurance Campaign
Mountain America Insurance Services
When I was assigned this campaign I had been very inspired by old split-flap displays used in airports and train stations, and I thought it could be a visually interesting way to display artwork for a marketing campaign.
The original board was built in Cinema 4D by v68, but was much bigger and had 4 times as many panels as what I wanted. This meant I had to roll my sleeves up and dive into Cinema 4D, and resize the board to the dimensions I was looking for.
This project made use of an After Effects plugin called Element 3D, which allows you to import and manipulate 3D objects right in After Effects. It was very tedious at times, as we had over 90 LED boards to display the message, all at different dimensions and specifications, so I setup an Adobe XD document with all the different sizes, and a very patient and amazing designer on my team named Erik Pavik helped me resize the artwork for all the boards. Then it was a matter of fitting the artwork to a board with the correct amount of panels, and rendering it all out.
Many designers tend to shy away from work that is tedious or repetitive, but for some reason I thrive in that environment. I knew this project would be a lot of work, but the end result made it all worth it.
The Game of Money Digital Workbook
Mountain America Credit Union
This was an interesting project for me because I had worked on this during my time at the Deseret News. It originally started as a print tabloid that came with the newspaper, which had a bunch of activities to show Jr. High and High School level kids how to budget and be smart with spending.

Profile
I simply love to create--whether it’s design, music, painting or building something with my own two hands, I’m constantly trying to scratch that creative itch, and never seem to be satisfied. I’ve also been ever-curious and passionate about computers and electronics since I was 3 years old, and am always trying to learn something new or figure out the inner workings and capabilities of a new piece of software or technology.
Being able to combine these two facets of life--creativity and technology--is where I shine, and is what drives me both in my professional and personal life. But beyond that, finding like-minded people to collaborate with and learn from is as important to me as anything else.
